Over the weekend I had another gig. It was for General Motors Middle East, a family day. The event took place at the ideal family location, Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The events team did a wonderful job of setting up the Events Arena for over 500 guests, which is ideally located on the beach front right in front of Burj Al Arab.
It was quite a long set and not my ‘usual’ sort of scene (family event, from 11am-5pm) but once I’m playing and mixing music I guess it doesn’t make any difference as to what time I’m playing or who the crowd is 🙂
The set varied completely, everything from Fresh, to Wild Ones (possibly my number one played commercial track of 2012 and very ‘Dubai’ – see my post of the track here), Move For Me to possibly the much loved Gangnam Style. It’s a real pleasure to mix such a diverse selection! It is Dubai after all… 😉
The set up was four looped speakers set up across the grass, hooked up to an amp with wireless mic all leading in to my Herucles mixer:
I had the pleasure of the Dubai Drums guys play beside me for two hours, where they got all families involved mixing the beats along to the tunes! There was a really cool vibe with them.
A request came in for a song I unfortunately did not have which is always a pity but it’s definitely on the list to purchase soon, check out ‘Olympic Airways‘ by the Foals below, a great Indie-Rock type tune (could not embed the official video as it’s not available in the UAE for some reason):
The gig wrapped up at 5pm just as the little ones were getting tired from all of their dancing on stage, and games such as sack race and relays. A great family day out! Feedback on the day from GM was ‘the music really suited the type of event’!
So a great day for all involved… Bring on the next gig (New Years Eve at Jumeirah Beach Hotel)! Until next time…
